Endarasha School Owner Speaks For First Time After Fire Kills 21: “I'm Saddened”

What did the owner of Hillside Endarasha say?

Kinyua expressed his sadness over the deaths of students in his school, saying he mourns with the parents because he too has lost students.

In an interview with NTVKinyua said he was very touched by the sad event, as he did not expect it.

“I am a parent, and I have been with those children for many years. And we were very familiar with each other. I am very sad because I have lost many children. I ask for your prayers. Pray for us so that we can recover quickly,” he said.

How is Kinyua preparing for the opening of the school?

Kinyua said that now that the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has returned him to school, he plans to start rehabilitation.

He added that in order to prevent students from being psychologically affected, they have decided to move the boys' dormitory to a different area within the school.

“We have called the parents for a prayer meeting on Monday. We have also invited the church pastor and education officials. After that, we will talk about how the children will return to school.”

Kinyua also mentioned that a committee has been created to ensure that children who lost everything in the fire are given new things.

“Students will return the way they left. They don't need to buy anything because donors are ready to help the children,” he added.

In order to prevent such deaths and tragedies, Kinyua said the number of boarding students at the school will be reduced from 330 to 195.
