The Kuriot Primary School student drowned while swimming in a seasonal river on Sunday, September 15.

What the local official said about the sad event

Confirming the news, the Deputy Chief of Kibuswo Sub-Area, Gilbert Chepsiror, said the child was among 20 other children who were fishing before falling into the water and drowning.

Chepsiror said the child's body was found and taken to the mortuary, pending an autopsy.

The local official revealed that the area has many children who wander because they have been forgotten by their parents.

“I called the father of the child, and he told me that he has been away from his home for the past six months and does not know where his wife and children are,” said Chepsiror, as reported by The Star.

Promising to arrest the parents who abandoned their children, the local official said many children have been forced to roam around in search of food.

“Children are forced to roam around looking for food alone because their parents have abandoned them,” he added.
