Kitui – About six students have been confirmed to have died after a fatal accident occurred on the Kitui-Kibwezi Road. What did the police say about Kitui's accident?
Ititha County Deputy Commissioner, Vincent Loctary Lomachary, confirmed the accident that happened on the morning of Friday, September 13, saying it happened at Wiitu Shopping Centre.
Lomachary said the victims are three students from Kyaoni Primary School and three from Kyaoni Secondary School. Authorities said five of the victims were girls.
According to the deputy county commissioner, the students were hit by a Probox car when they were crossing the road at 12:20 am.
Lomachary said preliminary findings from the police indicated that the Probox was speeding at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Probox fled the scene of the accident before later surrendering at the Mutomo Police Station.
The spokesperson of the National Police Service, Resila Onyango, confirmed the incident, saying the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
“They died on the spot and the police are working on this matter,” said Onyango.
How a Form Two student was killed in Butere.
Elsewhere, a tragic accident shocked Butere residents after a Form Two student, William Bwire, killed while on his way to school on the Buyangu-Ekero road.
Bwire, aged 15, a student of Shitsitswi Secondary School, was riding his bike with his friend when he was hit by a sugarcane truck from behind.
According to witnesses, the accident happened early in the morning when the students were on their way to school.
Bwire died instantly, while his friend, who was traveling as a passenger, survived but suffered serious injuries.
Butere Police Commander, Julius Kiptoo, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
