The daily newspaper reported that Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has vowed to prosecute his online tormentors.
Social media has been abuzz with claims that Ndeti and her son were stranded in the UK after trying to deposit KSh600 million, which is alleged to be the proceeds of corruption.
The governor, who is said to be in England attending his son's graduation ceremony, has since denied the rumours.
“I am fine and I am not stuck as claimed by heretics who play politics,” he said on the phone.
County Secretary Muya Ndabuki said action will be taken against those who spread such lies.

According to the newspaper, the investigation into the Hillside Endarasha School fire tragedy may take longer than expected, the police have said.
The September 6 incident claimed the lives of 21 students, according to official records, who were among the boarders at the institution in Kieni State, County Pain.
Central Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Abraham Mugambi told the newspaper that it was too early for the police to name any suspects.
“The investigation is a process, and it takes time, so it would be too early to name any suspects,” he said.
He mentioned that they have not yet interviewed the victims and the main suspects due to the traumatic nature of the incident.
The victims were receiving psychological and social care before the police started questioning them.
Mugambi denied claims circulating on social media that 70 children are still unaccounted for, saying no child has gone missing.
These claims were spread by X users after the speech of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed that 70 children were missing on the day of the incident.
Mugambi explained that there are only 17 children who have not been monitored and thus added that the police with the help of the school management kept them in their homes after being taken by their parents.

The government was last night discussing halting the proposed airport deal with the Adani Group after airport workers across the country went on strike, shutting down all airports and leaving travelers stranded.
Transport Minister Davis Chirchir and senior officials met to investigate options various, including the possibility of canceling the proposed plan.
The newspaper reported that no official deal with Adani has been reached yet. The heads of the agreement teams of the proposed agreement between the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) indicate that negotiations are still ongoing.
Once the KAA and AAHL have completed the necessary investigation, the proposal will be forwarded to the Directorate of the National Fund for Public-Private Partnerships for further review.
It will then go to the Ministry of Transport before being opened for public comment, and ultimately requiring parliamentary approval.
A senior government official involved in the negotiations emphasized the initial status of the agreement.

The Kiswahili newspaper reported that Mohamed Abduba Dida arrived in the United States in January 2019 to continue his studies and planned to return home later.
In Illinois, a man who twice hoped but failed to become a dark horse in two presidential elections, took a fourth wife.
Dida had already married three women in Kenya, although one union ended in divorce. The rest of his family, including others, did not oppose the former teacher's decision.
He had a child with an American wife, the last born among more than twelve siblings who were in Kenya.
Things changed in July 2021 when Dida and his wife had a dispute that would lead to a seven-year prison sentence, which has attracted one more year.
Dida's brother said that the American wife is still part of the family, as she has not filed for divorce.
Dida's second wife, Amina Halake, his mother Habiba, and the first son Luqman led the family by saying they are working to get their guardian a lawyer to push his appeal.
“Teacher Dida was not represented in court because he thought it was a minor domestic dispute. He has appealed and said it has a high chance of success,” Amen said.
Amina mentioned that she contacted Dida's American wife several times to resolve the dispute through negotiation or Shariah law, but was unsuccessful.
