Nyeri Member of Parliament Who Lost KSh 560 in Gen Z Demonstration Forgives Looters

  • Chieni supermarkets were raided at the height of protests against the money bill, leaving the MPs counting losses of up to KSh 560 million
  • As they opened the shops separately this week, Wainaina announced that he has forgiven the looters even if they face justice at the hands of the government

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina says he no longer holds grudges against those who raided and looted his chain of three supermarkets in June during protests against the 2024 Finance Bill.

Chieni Supermarket branches in the center of Nyeri towns and Nanyuki goods worth millions were stolen before being set on fire.

The MP said he suffered a loss of KSh 560 million following the raid.

He then went into a series of pleading with the looters to return the goods to the store.

But two months later, the MP seems to have recovered from the meeting.

The Member of Parliament started to revive the shops and save to continue serving his customers.

During the opening of the supermarkets earlier this week, Wainaina said he had forgiven the looters, saying they were criminals and not young people as it was portrayed.

“As a family we have forgiven those who destroyed our business. We believe these were common criminals and the damage done to my investment was not motivated by politics as those arrested were not Gen Zs,” said the member of parliament.
