- The student said they were lying on their beds when the light bulb exploded, sparks igniting the mattress.

County of Pain – New information has revealed that a faulty light bulb may have caused the fatal fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy.
The tragedy has claimed the lives of 21 people as of Saturday evening, September 7.
How the Endarasha Adacemy fire started
The surviving student said the fire started after a light bulb exploded and ignited the mattress underneath.
The bedding at the top of the bunk bed caught fire after the glow from the exploding light bulb scattered over it.
One of the students ran to fetch water to put out the fire but could not find it.
He returned to find the fire spreading, prompting him to call other students and the matron to help put it out, but it was too late.
“One of the children was sleeping upstairs when the light bulb that was facing him exploded, dark sparks ignited his bedding, the student went to look for water but did not find it, he came back and found the fire spreading, he woke up. about three to help him but it was already out of their hands and then they went to the matron who came and found the fire had consumed the entire dormitory,” the student said as narrated by his parent.
Survivors and others managed to escape by using a door near another dormitory used by eighth grade students.

It was later revealed that the bodies were found piled up at the door while the perpetrators were seen moving the bodies from the dormitory to the open field.
The deceased, with an average age of 9 years, were burnt beyond recognition.
The door outside the dormitory was full of students who struggled to find a way to safety.
Meanwhile, the President William Ruto has announced three days of mourning, with the flags of Kenya and the East African Community (EAC) expected to fly at half-mast in all public institutions, military bases and Kenyan embassies around the world.
All about the Hillside Endarasha School fire tragedy
- National Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed that the fire broke out in a dormitory inside the school.
- In its statement later, the Ministry of Education confirmed that the dormitory that was in bad condition had 156 male students.
- The police said 16 students perished at the scene, and two others died from burns while in the hospital.
