Rigathi Gachagua Asks ODM Members To Support What He Says: “You Are In Government Now”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has given a new order to members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga who joined the government.

What did Gachagua say to ODM members?

Speaking on Thursday, September 5, Gachagua told ODM party members to support what he says going forward as they are now working with the government.

“That's what being in government is all about. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about?” the vice president asked.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the party having members in the government, as it helps unite the people.

“Now you are part of the government…you can no longer complain about being excluded. You are part and parcel of the government,” he added.

He also welcomed them to the government while insisting that they should now work together to develop the country.

ODM officials who joined the government are writing letters of resignation

Earlier, the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Edwin Sifuna announced that the five officers nominated to the President's Cabinet William Ruto they submitted their resignation letters.

In a press conference on Wednesday, July 31, Sifuna announced that he had received letters of resignation from the ODM national chairman. John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi, political affairs secretary.

Former governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Ali Joho, who served as deputy leaders of the party, and Beatrice Askul Moe, a member of the party's election committee, also submitted their resignations.

Sifuna pointed out that their departure from the party shows ODM's continued adherence to the Declaration and no relationship with the government of Kenya First.

He also reiterated that there was no agreement between the ODM party and Kenya First.

Sifuna said that ODM remains part of the Azimio coalition and will continue its role in the opposition and other parties to defend accountability and transparency in governance and public affairs.
