The fire broke out at midnight and caught 824 students by surprise while they were sleeping in the dormitory. A total of 16 students died at school, while one died on the way to the hospital.

The incident comes just two days after, Patrick Lucka student at Pebbles Academy in Thika, allegedly died at school while participating in a cross-country event.
The boy had previously told his mother that he did not want to participate in the event, but his parents claimed that the teacher forced him to go to the dance.
The little boy was taken to Montezuma Funeral Home, and the school kept his smart watch, the clothes he was wearing, and his shoes.
