Kenyan newspapers: Rebecca Cheptegei's family asks the police to protect the property of the deceased

On Friday, September 6, Kenyan newspapers reported on the tragic death of an athlete Uganda Rebecca Cheptegei, who died at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

The dailies also revealed how senior government officials spent billions running around defying President William Ruto's austerity measures.

1. People Daily

The family of murdered Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has asked the police to protect her property from the main suspect, Dickson Ndiema.

Ndiema allegedly doused Cheptegei with petrol and set him on fire, causing his death after 80 percent burns.

The father of the deceased, Joseph Cheptegei, asked the government to help him get his property worth millions in Kinyor area, the county of Trans Nzoia.

Joseph revealed that the fallen Olympian had a master plan that he had developed and another piece that the suspect was about to take.

She revealed that the suspect was threatening her and threatening her daughter before her death. Although he reported the incidents to the police, he claimed no action was taken.

“The man responsible for his daughter's murder has been admitted to a hospital without police protection, and there is a high possibility that he may flee after his condition stabilizes,” Cheptegei's father said.

A report by the Comptroller of the Budget Margaret Nyakang'o has revealed how senior government officials spent billions of money to travel abroad despite President William Ruto limiting travel spending.

Members of Parliament (MPs) want to increase the allocation of the Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) by KSh 10 billion.

The NG-CDF (Amendment) Bill of 2023 proposes to increase the amount from KSh 53.5 billion to KSh 63.6 billion.

The publication reported what former prime minister Raila Odinga's role would entail if he wins the chair of the African Union (AU) Commission.

Raila he will manage a budget of KSh 14.16 billion every year and will be directly responsible to the Executive Council.

The General Council brings together the ministers of foreign affairs of the AU member states.

On Wednesday, September 4, Raila met six African presidents in China as he campaigned for the seat ahead of the February 2025 elections.

According to analysts, the new political friendship between President William Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga may deteriorate the popularity of Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua.

However, the new fight between Ruto and Raila may make him interested in Nyanza and Western Kenya, which has been supporting the ODM leader.
