Rebecca Cheptegei: Kenyans mourn the death of an athlete who was burned by her husband

In a sad state of affairs, the athlete of Uganda Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei has died.

According to The New Vision newspaper, the athlete died from the injuries he sustained after being set on fire by his lover in a brutal attack.

Where was Cheptegei attacked?

The incident happened at his home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya, where he was living and training.

Cheptegei, who recently competed in the women's marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympics, suffered severe burns over 80% of her body.

The attack is allegedly carried out by her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, during a heated argument.

It is said that Ndiema ambushed Cheptegei as he was returning home from church, doused him with petrol and set him on fire.

Where did Cheptegei die?

Despite receiving intensive care at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital there EldoretCheptegei's injuries resulted in death.

He died while arrangements were being made for him to be transported to Nairobi for special treatment.

His tragic death is a great loss to the world of sports and his country Uganda.

Social media users sent their condolences to the bereaved family, with many calling for justice.
