Lugo: Police in Chinatown in the country Uganda they have temporarily closed a supermarket that has become popular for cheap prices.
Before the Ugandan police shut down the China Town market in Lugogo, many people had already visited the shop, taking pictures of the products and their prices and sharing them on social media.
Shoppers quickly flocked to the shopping center after seeing that the products were cheaper than those in regular stores, but the quality seemed to be comparable.
According to Uganda's Monitor newspaper, Daniel Akwanget, the head of marketing at the store, said most of the customers who throng the store are influencers of TikTok and they ended up announcing indirectly.
“We didn't know that social media influencers were promoting us indirectly, we've been seeing people come into stores, take videos of our products and distribute them, that's why we have all this crowd. We didn't pay or even hire these influencers they come here themselves,” said Akwanget as reported by Monitor.
Why did the police close the city of China?
Pulse Uganda reported that police and soldiers temporarily closed the shopping center until further notice citing congestion and the threat of terrorism.
“Please leave now; we have a terrorist threat,” the officer announced using a megaphone.
The US Embassy in Uganda announced an “increased risk of terrorist attacks in Kampala” as the September 11 anniversary approaches.
“As we approach the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the potential for terrorist organizations, extremist groups, associates, and supporters to launch attacks to coincide with this anniversary cannot be overemphasized. By their very nature, terrorist attacks are unpredictable, which highlights the risk that the United Nations could be compromised or suffer collateral damage.” reads a US embassy security alert in part.
The new store opened at the weekend in the former Shoprite supermarket in Lugogo, mainly sells home appliances, including electronics, fabrics, kitchen, sports equipment, furniture, televisions and other appliances.
China Square in Kenya has reopened for business

The store was at the center of controversy after local businessmen accused it of unfair competition due to the cheap prices being offered at the time.
The report indicated that the famous shopping mall was reopened after the Chinese community negotiated with the government Kenya.
