Elgeyo Marakwet – Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba has criticized President William Ruto due to the non-implementation of the promises he announced.
During a recent event, Kipchumba highlighted the stalled progress of the Chebara Institute despite the president's assurance.
The member of parliament recounted a previous conversation with the country's leader where Ruto He assured him that National Youth Service (NYS) staff will be sent to Chebara Institute to initiate its development.
“Here at the Chebara Institute, I once asked the President, and he said, 'Toroitich, go in the morning and check if the employees of NYS they have arrived there.' They arrived or they didn't, but until today, the Chebara Institute has not continued,” the MP complained.
Kipchumba expressed his concern about the lack of funds to complete the promised projects, while asking Ruto to ensure that financial resources are allocated to fulfill the promises made at public meetings.
“I am humbly begging the President, when we make promises in the field, let us make sure there are funds to complete the project. Every time I meet the President, I tell him, please, the schools are not completed. So we are asking the president to fulfill the promise of three months,” he said.
Why is Kipchumba afraid?
Kipchumba also referred to the growing discontent among the youth, warning that unfulfilled promises could lead to chaos.
The lawmaker observed that the youth-led protests that caused the National Assembly to riot were fueled by many unfulfilled promises.
He explained that he is afraid of being attacked by his constituents, adding that he is committed to carrying out his duties.
“Recently these Gen Z came and attacked the Parliament due to false promises made to the people, so Sir, even I in Marakwet West I don't want to be invaded, I want to work on the agenda given to me,” he explained.
