Kakamega – A police officer has been arrested following a violent confrontation with tuk-tuk workers on the Kakamega-Kisumu road.
The incident which happened near the Kakamega Police Station, led the officer to release his gun and injure 28-year-old Derick Chibini.
According to Citizen Digital, police officer Nathan Bett was sent to maintain order in the courthouse but he returned his Ceska pistol with 13 bullets.
An investigation later found that Bett fired two shots during an altercation with the tuk-tuk operators.
Officer Bett was detained and will be charged with attempted murder as action would also be taken against the officer in charge of the armory.
“The officer has been arrested and placed in prison for attempting to kill. Actions will also be taken against the one who was guarding the weapons warehouse for improperly handing over the weapon,” the report said in part.
The fight reportedly started after the tuk-tuk operators refused to stop and let him get off at the Kakamega Police Station gate.
Bett claimed that the tuk-tuk drivers intended to kidnap him, prompting him to use his weapon to defend himself.
