- Moses Lenolkulal and 10 co-accused were sentenced to prison and fined after being found guilty of corruption
- The group was accused of defrauding the Samburu county government, where Lenolkulal served as governor for two terms between 2013 and 2022.
- The Anti-Corruption Court in Nairobi fined the former governor KSh 85.5 million and an alternative sentence of eight years in prison on suspicion of conflict of interest and fraudulently obtaining money from the state treasury.
The former governor of Samburu Moses Lenolkulal and his co-accused have been jailed for four years each with the option of fines of varying degrees.
However, the judgment of the Chief Judge of the Anti-Corruption Court of Nairobi Thomas Nzioki weighed heavily against the former county chief, whose punishment was heavy compared to ten others.
He was fined KSh 83.5 million, which the judge said would be equal to twice the profit after dividing the ill-gotten public money.
The former county chief was also fined KSh 2 million with the option of eight years in prison for alleged conflict of interest and fraudulently obtaining money from the county treasury.
Besides, Lenolkulal was barred from running for office or seeking public office until ten years had passed.
