The residents lit a fire and blocked the main road leading to the governor's office while claiming that he had escaped.

“We have said that this is just a warm-up, starting tomorrow… This morning he entered secretly using a car without a number plate, but tomorrow morning by five o'clock we will have arrived and we will prevent him from entering the office because we know that office belongs to Mutuma M'Ethingia as the fourth governor of Meru County,” said Dominic Kirimi, a resident.

What are the demands of the residents of Meru

The angry residents asked Mwangaza to resign from his post and claimed that any activities he did following the decision of the Senate are illegal, invalid and unconstitutional.

Betty Makena expressed frustration, explaining that they all saw the Senate holding the decision to impeach Mwangaza, but he is working.

“We carefully reviewed the situation in the Senate. Governor Kawira has been fired, but we still see him continuing, even signing the budget issues. We say that the budget signed by Kawira is against the law,” Makena said.

How the senators voted to remove Mwangaza

This move follows the confirmation by the Senate of Mwangaza's dismissal on Wednesday, August 21, a decision previously made by the MCAs.

The MCAs accused Mwangaza of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violation of the constitution and other laws.

The Senate concluded its deliberations, with many leaders finding Mwangaza guilty of all offences.

The process was not without controversy, as some senators criticized Speaker Amason Kingi for not allowing enough time for voting, especially for those attending the sessions closely.

However, the High Court temporarily postponed the removal of Mwangaza after opposing the decision of the Senate session on Tuesday, August 20, to approve his removal from office.
