Wycliffe Oparanya Seeks William Ruto's Blessings to Run His Ministry: “Don't Pull My Hand Back”

The Minister of Cooperatives and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has appealed to the President William Ruto give him the opportunity to carry out his ministerial duties without interference.

Speaking on Saturday, August 24, at his home in Butere during a local thanksgiving, Oparanya appreciated the noble responsibility placed on his shoulders.

What conditions did Oparanya give Ruto?

He said he will fulfill the expectations of Kenyans only if he is not interfered by his superiors in the government.

The President was present at the thanksgiving event.

“I will carry out my duties. Just allow me a chance to work. You know if you interfere, and hold me back, then I cannot give. But if you give me a chance, whenever I see a mistake, I can come to you whenever we get it right, we soldiers,” he said.

Ruto, in his speech, assured Oparanya of his support and promised not to interfere in any way with the activities of his ministry.

He noted that the manifesto that he wanted for his office is the same as that of the Declaration, which Oparanya was a member of when it was created.

How Ruto answered Oparanya

The President expressed confidence in the ability of the former governor of Kakamega in the document assigned to him.

“Our manifestos talk about the same things. And because of that, I know it would not be difficult for Oparanya and his colleagues from the opposition to implement that. I know you have asked to be given the chance to serve, let me say that. You have a chance to give,” the president said.

The President called on Oparanya to raise the status of cooperatives and small businesses in the country so that Kenyans on the ground can strengthen themselves financially.

Ruto also promised Oparanya that he would bring in money to enable him implement his programs as Cooperatives Prime Minister.

Broad-based government

Oparanya, who used to be the deputy leader of the ODM party, is among the leaders of the party led by Raila Odinga whom the president hunted in his Cabinet.

A few weeks back, Oparanya caused a stir after he threatened to leave his new office if his contribution was withheld.

He was grateful that Ruto chose him because of his performance record, and therefore agreed to help the Kenya First administration fulfill its promises to Kenyans.
