Why Jimi Wanjigi resisted his arrest

Wanjigi appeared before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on Tuesday, August 20 for possession of unlicensed firearms.

Shitubi released Wanjigi on a personal bond of KSh 10 million until September 12, when a decision will be made on the charges against him.

The judge further ordered the Safina party leader to keep his passport in court pending his decision.

Wanjigi through his lawyers including General Counsel Paul Muite, Kalonzo Musyoka and Willis Otieno applied for postponement of the application claiming that their client's rights have been violated.

They claimed that the police disobeyed the court order issued by the Judge Luck Umuye, to stop his arrest and detention.

After his release, Wanjigi was reunited with his family. His mother, wife, son and daughter were by his side.

His mother felt the touch tape and cried. Wanjigi's wife comforted him before her husband took his mother's hand.

What happened when the police raided Wanjigi's house?

The businessman's wife and children have been on his side during his conflicts with the President's government William Ruto.

On August 9, the police raided Wanjigi Muthaiga's house and broke down the door.

They allegedly dragged everyone from their beds as they began the search for the politician.

His son Maina claimed that about five officers beat him before continuing the cruelty to his sister and mother.

They were forced to sleep on the floor and were allegedly assaulted despite submitting a police order.

His daughter, Wambui, said the police humiliated them, but the experience strengthened their will to stand behind their embattled father.

She also noted that she felt even more proud to be Wanjigi's daughter.
