What are the charges facing Maverick Aoko?

On Monday, August 19, Aoko was brought before Senior Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi where he was charged with three offenses including publishing false news and online harassment.

In the first indictment, Aoko was charged with unlawfully publishing defamatory and threatening information about Amber Ray and Jamal using his X platform.

“He did this knowing that it was bad, false and calculated to cause fear, panic and destroy the reputation and career and livelihood of Beth Wambui Mbutu,” the charge sheet said.

Maverick Aoko was released under what conditions?

In the second charge, he is alleged to have published false information on the same day, in collaboration with other people who did not appear in court, while using the X Corp Account named Maverick Aoko @AokoOtieno, knowingly and without valid excuse.

Aoko, a former Standard journalist, also faced a third charge of electronic data fraud, contrary to section 38 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber ​​Crime Act.

He denied all charges and was released on KSh 100,000 cash bail or KSh 200,000 bond.

When was Maverick Aoko arrested?

As previously reported, social media sensation Aoko was arrested at his home in the capital on Friday, August 16.

The first time he was taken to the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Kiambu for questioning before being transferred to Muthaiga Police Station.
