Kirinyaga is one of the richest agricultural counties in Kenya, producing rice, tea, coffee, macadamia and other crops.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics Kenya (KNBS), Kirinyaga accounts for 1.3 percent of Kenya's GDP.

Kirinyaga County's GDP (GCP) increased from KSh 139.8 billion in 2021 to KSh 160.9 billion in 2022.

Who are the richest people from Kirinyaga?

1. James Kanyotu

The former National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss left a fortune worth over KSh 20 billion.

According to Who Owns Kenya, he was one of the richest Kenyans when he died in 2008.

Kanyotu owned several companies, including Half Moon, Full Moon and Cloud Limited.

The former intelligence chief held shares in Sameer Group, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), Collindale Ltd and Kangaita Coffee Estate, among others.

2. Charles Njiru

Charles Njiru is one of the businessmen who built their empire from scratch.

Business Daily reported that Njiru worked as a tailor in her early life in the 1980s, earning KSh 300 monthly.

Three decades later, he became a billionaire after his main business, Nice Rice Mill, became successful.

The factory processes more than 70% of the rice produced in Mwea. It is worth more than KSh 300 million and employs more than 5,000 people indirectly.

Njiru is also the owner of Nice Digital City Mall, built for KSh 1 billion. The mall has a supermarket, a 75-bed hotel, a garden, a swimming pool, and other amenities.

3. Andrew Ngirici and Purity Ngirici

Andrew Ngirici is the husband of former Kirinyaga women's representative Purity Ngirici.

According to Pulselive Kenya, Ngirici dropped out of school in the fourth grade at Kirigo Primary School.

In his earlier life, he was hired by a neighbor, Arthur Munyi, to drive a donkey cart. His mother later helped him buy one, which he used to transport crates of beer to local bars.

Ngirici ventured into the travel business, but his breakthrough came when he met former intelligence chief James Kanyotu.

During the administration of the late Daniel Moi, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss named him his personal assistant (PA).

He used the opportunity to expand his network, and build an empire in the transportation, real estate, mining, agriculture, and information industries. He owns Mt Kenya TV and Iganjo FM.

He and his wife have a multi-million car collection, including a Cadillac Escalade SUV, a Maserati Levante, a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover, and a Rolls Royce Phantom, which cost over KSh 45 million.

4. Charles Kibiru

The former Kirinyaga senator used to work as a commercial director in the Company Nairobi Water.

In May 2010, he quit his job and ventured into business.

He is one of the founders of Millions Golf Hotel Thika Greens, which is located on a 1,700 acre piece of land along Old Murang'a Road near the Nairobi-Thika-Nyeri Highway.

5. Anne Waiguru

As reported by Daily Nation, Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru revealed that she was worth KSh 160 million.

Waiguru has interests in real estate, and his assets include a multimillion-dollar house.

“In terms of assets, including this house which is a loan, I have a value of KSh 160 million and total debts up to KSh 80 million. The real value, therefore, is nothing to write home about,” he claimed.

Who is the richest from Painful?

Former Nyeri senator Ephraim Maina is also one of the richest politicians in the region.
