Kirinyaga: Bodaboda Operator Dives In Pond Showing Swimming Skills To Win KSh 300

Kirinyaga – Residents of Maisha Kamili in Ngurubani town and Kamucege village in Mwea constituency are mourning the sudden death of a 25-year-old man.

Kelvin Gitonga, a famous Ngurubani swimmer and bodaboda rider, tragically drowned while trying to swim in the National Irrigation Authority pool on Sunday, August 18, to win a KSh 300 bet.

According to the report Citizen DigitalGitonga's friend had placed a bet, which the deceased was to win after successfully swimming from one side of the pool to the other. Despite being an experienced swimmer, Gitonga failed the dangerous challenge.

“Kelvin was full of confidence that he would arrive, but just as he approached the shore, an unexpected event happened,” said the local attendant.

Residents of Kirinyaga want the safety of the dam to be strengthened

The dam, which was built to support rice cultivation during the summer, has now made the community call for safety measures.

Residents and farmers of the paddy area, led by the leader of the Tebere Division, Alex Nguo, are advocating that the dam be fenced to prevent further accidents. Gitonga's death is the second death in the dam since its construction.

The search for Gitonga's body continued until midnight, with local divers and police involved from the Wanguru Police Station.

Meanwhile, the friend who placed the bet has disappeared following the incident.

A pregnant woman dies in the church Poisonous

Elsewhere, a 29-year-old pregnant woman died under mysterious circumstances at Kanyamedha church in Kisumu.

Florence Akinyi's husband, who was at the scene, has not been found yet despite the efforts of his family.

According to Akinyi's relatives, members of the church gave conflicting reasons for the woman's death.
