Ojwang has revealed what Shujaa must do if they are to stand a chance of doing well at the World Sevens Circuit following their Paris 2024 Olympics escapade.
Kenya 7s rising star Christant Ojwang has shared insights on what the team must do to improve their chances of topping seeds in future tournaments, following their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ojwang, who made a significant impact by scoring Kenya’s first try against Argentina, has become a pivotal player since his debut at the Uruguay Challenger in March.
Despite Kenya’s 31-12 loss to Argentina, Ojwang remains optimistic about the team’s potential. Reflecting on their performance, he highlighted the lessons learned and areas for improvement.
“When the pools were released for the Olympic games, we saw Argentina were from winning the circuit so we were like, ‘this is the best in the world’,” Ojwang told NTV.
Kenya 7s Co-Captain Tony Omondi has revealed two things about the Paris 2024 Olympics he will never forget.
He noted that while the team prepared rigorously for the match, the outcome highlighted the need for better precision and concentration.
Ojwang believes that Kenya has the skills and physicality to compete with the top teams but emphasized the importance of mental focus.
“Definitely, we can pick our lessons and be more precise in what we want to achieve as a team, but all those teams, we can match them in terms of skill, physicality. However, if we can work on concentration, we are good to go,” he said.

Looking ahead, Ojwang outlined what Kenya 7s needs to do to become top seeds in the HSBC series. He stressed the importance of consistency and setting clear priorities.
“For us to be top seeds in the HSBC series, we need to do a lot. We have to maintain consecutive quarters appearance in the whole leg but we need to go home, come together, get our priorities right as players and the tech bench, know what to work on, player welfare, so that everyone is in sync,” he explained.
Ojwang also underscored the significance of teamwork and continuous improvement, especially for a relatively young squad.

Kenya 7s coach Kevin Wambua has provided an insight on how his charges fared at the Paris 2024 Olympic games.
“We can match them. These teams are beatable but only if we improve as a team because this is the first time we have experienced a tournament like this being youngsters,” he added.
