Smartphone maker unveils new ‘Dumb’ phone for digital content creators

Smartphone manufacturer Human Mobile Devices (HMD) Global Thursday announced the launch of a new mobile phone device christened HMD Skyline.

The company, which has built a reputation for producing environmentally conscious technology products since its foray into mobile phone manufacturing in 2016, aims to ‘bring back the human element’ to smartphones with its latest product offering.

“Human Mobile Devices is human by design, and that’s what we’ve done with HMD Skyline, put consumers first,” said Lars Silberbauer, Global Chief Marketing Officer of HMD.

The slick HMD Skyline smartphone boasts an in-built detox mode with app and contact blocking features which allow users to scale back on digital interactions and ‘focus on the real world’.

The move is informed by a study conducted by the company which highlighted concerns by parents over excessive use of mobile phones by young people aged between 12 to 27 years.

According to HMD Global, which is currently ranked as Europe’s largest smartphone manufacturer, the feature will provide customers with a balanced smartphone experience whenever they need a break from the online world.

Additionally, the HMD Skyline boasts of exceptional camera capabilities with a 50 Megapixel front camera and 108 Megapixel Hybrid OIS triple rear camera which enables content creators to shoot 4K quality videos.

The phone is currently on sale for Ksh. 58,000.
