The English players donate most of the money they get from each game to the England Football Foundation
England was poised to make history in the Euro 2024 final against Spain, as they were aiming for their first European Championship title.
Gareth Southgate’s squad navigated a challenging path, including thrilling victories over Slovakia and Switzerland in extra time and penalties, respectively.
They secured a dramatic win over the Netherlands in the semi-finals with goals from Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins.
England’s national team players, despite their hefty club salaries, earned a surprisingly modest £2,000 (KSH 32,2959) per game for their appearances in the international arena.
This amount, traditionally allocated to each player, has been steadfastly donated to the England Football Foundation for the past 17 years.
Rather than pocketing the potentially higher sums they could earn, such as up to £14,000 (KSH 226,0718) for reaching the Euro 2024 final, the players have chosen to contribute towards charitable causes supported by the Foundation, resulting in over £5million (KSH 807 M) raised since 2007.
However, if England were to emerge victorious in the upcoming European Championship final against Spain, a substantial bonus awaited the squad.
According to the sun, the players stood to receive an outstanding £24million (KSH 3.87B) collectively.
This bonus reflects not only the achievement of winning a major international tournament but also the financial rewards associated with such success.
Additionally, Gareth Southgate, England’s manager, is reportedly in line for a £4million (KSH 645.9 M) bonus if he guides the team to European glory, underscoring the high stakes and incentives involved at the managerial level.
Spain youngster Lamine Yamal was named EURO 2024 Young Player of the Tournament after leading his side to a 2-1 win over England in the final.
The potential windfall that could have been from winning the Euro 2024 final highlights the financial dynamics of international football, where performance-based bonuses can substantially augment players’ and coaches’ earnings beyond their regular salaries.
